In the shop
In chain shops — Indomaret, Alfamart — you barely speak, but you're always asked two things: do you want a bag, and do you have their card. "Tidak usah" — "no need" — closes both.
The word "ada" does half the work. On its own it means "there is", and "ada...?" with a product name is a ready-made "do you have...?". The answer "kosong" means they're out.
"Di mana" is where. "Di mana garam?" — where's the salt. Not elegant, but it's how locals ask too.
On cards: small shops often don't take them at all, and those that do may add the processing fee. "Bisa pakai kartu?" is worth asking before everything is rung up.
